Ingredients

  • 1 lb 450 g ground beef (lean or with a little fat)
  • 1 head butter lettuce or iceberg/romaine, leaves separated
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce optional, for depth
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger minced
  • 2 green onions chopped
  • ½ cup carrots finely shredded
  • ½ cup water chestnuts diced (optional, for crunch)
  • 1 tsp chili flakes or 1 tbsp sriracha optional, for spice
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds for garnish
  • 1 tbsp cooking oil

Method

  1. Prepare Lettuce: Wash, dry, and separate the lettuce leaves. Keep them chilled for extra crunch.
  2. Cook Beef: Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add garlic and ginger. Stir-fry for 30 seconds. Add ground beef and cook until browned.
  3. Add Sauces: Stir in soy sauce, hoisin sauce, oyster sauce (if using), and sesame oil. Mix well so the beef absorbs all the flavors.
  4. Mix Vegetables: Add carrots, water chestnuts, and green onions. Stir-fry for 2–3 minutes until slightly tender but still crisp. Add chili flakes or sriracha if you want it spicy.
  5. Assemble Wraps: Spoon the beef mixture into lettuce leaves. Top with sesame seeds and extra green onions. Serve immediately.
