Golden Savoury Mince Pie with Rich Beef Filling

These golden savoury mince pies are filled with rich, seasoned ground beef and baked in a flaky shortcrust pastry. Perfect for lunch or dinner, they’re easy to prepare and full of comforting flavor. Serve them hot with mashed potatoes or a fresh salad for a hearty homemade meal.

Ingredients
  

For the filling:
  • 500 g ground beef lean
  • 1 medium onion finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp flour
  • 150 ml beef broth
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp oil for sautéing
For the pastry:
  • 2 sheets of shortcrust pastry store-bought or homemade
  • 1 egg beaten, for egg wash

Method
 

Cook the filling:
  1. Heat oil in a pan. Sauté onion and garlic until soft.
  2. Add ground beef and cook until browned.
  3. Stir in tomato paste and flour. Cook for 1 minute.
  4. Add beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper.
  5. Simmer until thickened (10–15 minutes). Let it cool.
Prepare the pies:
  1. Preheat oven to 200°C (390°F).
  2. Line individual pie tins or a muffin tray with pastry.
  3. Fill with cooled beef mixture.
  4. Cover with pastry lids. Seal edges and cut a small slit on top.
Bake:
  1. Brush tops with beaten egg.
  2. Bake for 20–25 minutes or until golden brown.
Serve hot with mashed potatoes or a green salad.
