Ingredients
  

  • 8 slices of brioche or thick-cut bread slightly stale works best
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tbsp butter for greasing the dish
  • Powdered sugar for topping

Method
 

  1. Grease a baking dish with butter.
  2. Arrange bread slices in the dish, slightly overlapping.
  3. In a bowl, whisk eggs, milk, cream, brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt.
  4. Pour the custard evenly over the bread.
  5. Cover and refrigerate overnight (at least 6 hours).
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) the next morning.
  7. Uncover and bake for 40–45 minutes, until golden and set.
  8. Cool for 5–10 minutes.
  9. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
